Let’s talk dirty…as in garden dirt!

So… I’m so glad you’re here, I was afraid I may have offended you, but I see you have a bit of “spice” to you…. guess that’s why we’re friends!
Honestly…hasn’t this been the longest winter ever?
In northern Indiana, I’m afraid to announce that Spring has arrived. Here, Spring has not “sprung” until I can go to bed without covering my flowers in bath towels for the night.
It will be after Mother’s Day when I can safely plant…anything. I am eager to get my hands in the dirt! Digging, planting, watering, fertilizing and harvesting…. all of it is just. so. good. for the soul,
wouldn’t you agree?

When I say “garden” what do you think of? Let me be clear, I’m not a farmer with acreage to till, plant, fertilize and harvest, but I do enjoy my container gardens, containing herbs, vegetables and flowers, on my decks, porch or in the landscaping.
So where do I get the biggest bang for the buck?
Perennials! in my opinion, perennials are money well spent. I feel like they were born to be hardy; to grow and spread their roots…their abundant blooms make lazy gardeners look like horticultural artists.
And I’m all in!
For example, we own a little old lake cottage, which we renovated nine years ago. The first thing we did on the exterior was to pull out all of the overgrown evergreen shrubs, under which I found one small Hosta plant. The former owner, an eighty-year-old widow, Betty, had planted it there decades earlier. I saved Betty’s Hosta plant and have since divided it enough times to wrap three sides of our entire cottage. I hope Betty would be pleased.

Are you a lazy gardener? Try perennials.
Make sure you pick a plant you LOVE to look at, because they multiply like crazy.
Also, what are your favorite plants to use on the porch, your entrance, or in your landscaping?
Do you have a favorite color you use?
Curious…let me know in the comments…
happy day, friend!
