Are you behind with your own Resolutions yet?!
Are you upset, feeling stuck or depressed about it, that you let yourself down?
Listen, I don’t want to ruin your day by being a Debby Downer first thing in the morning, but lately I’ve been feeling “stuck”, which for a creative person I guess that’s common, like writer’s block, but I’m painfully aware that I’m not. quite. right.
Do you love Winter?
Do you love this snuggly, stay inside, cozy season at home?
I love all of that, but I do start to feel “trapped” when the snow piles high. I admire the snow’s shimmery beauty, then its immediately followed by wanting to get on a plane and head South, to sunshine and warmth on my face and shoulders.
What about you?
What do you do when you find yourself in a slump?
How do you handle being disappointed in yourself?
Do you dispel disappointment by trying to stay busy and productive?
Tomorrow morning, after coffee of course, we’re heading on a road trip, work related for my husband but I’m riding along, then to Florida for a week, also working from there. Nevertheless, the change of pace will be wonderful, different and new, which should lighten my mood and disposition quite a bit. I know someone who is hoping it will!
Trips are wonderful, but never practical, and always an unexpected or “extra” cost. So, if I can’t leave my house for a quick break, I entertain myself in the kitchen. I pull out my recipe books, check the pantry and I tend to cook and bake…don’t you?
Creamy Chicken Gnocchi Soup, Olive Garden’s Recipe, is my favorite cold-weather comfort food, so easy to make, and to freeze any leftovers, though I’ve never had any! Tap here for recipe: Olive Garden’s Chicken Gnocchi Soup (simplyhomebybeth.com)
I’ve also baked fresh bread during the winter months. Last year I had a sourdough starter that I “fed” daily for almost 2 years, until it finally turned rancid, and I didn’t want to risk “fixing it”.
So, baking, stewing, simmering, as well as hanging wallpaper and painting are my Winter activities that keep me busy and content.
So, the next time we’re both in a slump, perhaps we should contact each other on Facebook or Instagram, and search for remedies that are suitable to our conditions.
If we start baking or cooking up a storm, our families will love it, or if we wallpaper and paint the walls, really get creative, the house itself will thank us. For me, and hopefully for you my friend, this truly is a Win-Win remedy!
Note: let me know if you try the recipe above, it really is delicious, and can be made gluten free!
Wishing you a cozy-at-home Winter’s day,
xx,
