What is your favorite month of the year?
We all have favorites, but as I look back, when I thought of April, I primarily spent a lot of time thinking of pranks to play on people for April Fool’s Day. I’ve always blamed that on my younger siblings, my two brothers, but in fact, I was the ringleader of that circus!
April is the predecessor to the true Spring’s weather.
April is also the month of the Easter holiday, or Resurrection Sunday.
How do you spend Easter? Traditions that you cherish, meals that you must have, family to see, church to attend, or….does everyone come to see you for that special dinner?
That’s the case for me, although last year, the group only consisted of four of us….is that even a “group”?
Our table can seat 12, tightly, but we can do it. Shoulder to shoulder is the way of a great meal with loving family and/or friends around you. I like to say, that it’s the people around you that make the occasion wonderful, my husband says, good food matters!
True.
We are both correct.
It’s true that holidays are filled with traditions that we cherish, and food that we must have. A great meal is probably appreciated more easily than my centerpieces! Together, your day is bound to be remembered.
This month of April, I’m including some tablescapes from Easter past, and this year’s as well. I’ll add recipes that are “tradition” for our family, simple home cooking, nothing too fancy. I do have a new decadent chocolate cake recipe to share, and I think you’ll like it.
Planting, growing, tilling, setting lines and marking rows, gardening has begun, and it is glorious!
May will be a busy month for us, so I’m trying to finally get some decor projects finished before June. Several family events are in June, with the fourth of July celebration right behind it…. if you don’t know, we have a lake cottage, a tiny old vintage home, and the entire lake season peaks on July 4th. At that point, we aren’t spending weekends at home, or working inside, anywhere!
Speaking of the cottage, last Summer, we had the chance to buy 150-year-old pine flooring from a farmhouse that had been torn down. Carefully stacked and stored in an old barn, by the descendants of the original builder/owner of the farmhouse, the wood sat unattented and forgotten for more than 40 years.
My husband purchased all of it, enough to floor a 1600 square foot home, for $5.00. Can you believe that? A woman had purchased it for $2.00, but only wanted a few trim pieces and a newel post (who wouldn’t want that?), and when my husband asked what she was going to do with it, she replied she had what she wanted and would leave the rest. Offering to buy it from her, she said, “would you be upset if I charge you $5.00?”
“NO, I think that’s fair!”
Deal.
With the help of friends and cousins, we were able to haul it with a trailer, and stack and store it in a new barn. Soon, we’ll bring it to the cottage, for a couple of accent walls, or ceilings.
We did have the opportunity to sell most of the flooring, which will pay for the cost of labor and materials for our projects.
So, was it a “deal” or what?!!
You be the judge, when I post the AFTER pictures, and the before…. AFTERS are my favorites.
Aren’t they yours too?
We’ll talk later, just wanted you to be in the know….
Have an awesome day, my friend!
xx,
