This is worth repeating: November…the harvest complete, the cupboards are full, our hearts filled with gratitude.
All true!
BUT, do you know what you’re serving for Thanksgiving dinner?????!!!
First things first, my friends!
Who’s cooking?
In my case, for the last couple of years, we’ve been out of town, visiting family. Thanksgiving dinner was “eaten out”, because we were ON VACATION, and “us women-folk”, or my daughter and I decided against cooking. I’m not so traditional that I couldn’t go with the flow, and it turned out to be one of the best Thanksgiving’s ever!
The year was 2020, and few establishments were open, little to choose from.
We ate at a local restaurant named, “Dirty Dicks”…the name alone made us all cringe. As it turned out, they were not packed nor was there a line or reservations required. The dress code was “casual”. The atmosphere even more so…!
Am I painting a visual here?
The “holiday special” was a dish I’ve never heard of in decades of life lived…Turducken! This was a mixture of three birds, (I hope), turkey, duck and chicken. Who knew? The good news is that I still had stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, (some sort of bird-gravy), and pecan pie for dessert. It was all recognizable AND delicious!
Best day ever, we vowed to return the next Thanksgiving!
Note: should you ever find yourself in Panama City, Florida for Thanksgiving, Dirty Dicks will probably be “open”, and the bonus is you can buy a T-shirt with their name on it, as a memento. They have a glorious variety to choose from, for yourself, ..or it would make an interesting Christmas gift for a loved one!
This Thanksgiving we will be with family as well, and in return, I’ve invited them to spend Christmas dinner with us, here at home. I’m looking forward to hosting the most precious people I know and celebrating the holiday with them. It’s been a hard year for all of us, with my mother’s passing in September, so a little celebration and gathering with loved ones is in order.
Since I’m writing about November, my favorite part of November IS Thanksgiving. Of all the holidays, I truly favor Thanksgiving over the rest. Why? Because the entire day is centered around gratitude and thankfulness, holding loved ones close, and remembering those who cannot gather around your table. There is no stress from shopping and “finding the perfect gift”, it truly is an emotion-based, sentiment-filled holiday.
Who wouldn’t love that?
I’m wishing you and yours a happy November, a Thanksgiving filled with love and laughter around your table,
Blessings,
