A “cottage welcome” is like none other, wouldn’t you agree?
This sweet door with all of the little panes, makes me want to “walk right in”, and I don’t even know who lives there! And that, my friend, describes a “welcoming entrance.”
A warm entrance.
Don’t you just love this door?
Don’t you just swoon over ALL of it, the light, the trellis, the climbing vines and even the bunnies?
You know, when I see an entrance that I just “fall for”, it certainly makes me wonder what the inside of the home is like. It is bound to be gorgeous!
Do you think that way as well?
Maybe I’m just nosy, or curious and inquisitive (which sounds better), but a beautiful entrance is meant to draw you in, creating a warm welcome.
At home, (above photo), I do my best to be creative with decor. Seasonal decor is so fun, it’s a theme that everyone understands, if not expects, and the materials needed are readily available.
Craft supply stores such as Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, or even the Dollar General, have already-made decor at reasonable prices. Oh, Wal-Mart also has a great selection of decor and craft materials.
On my door this Spring, I used vintage garden tools that I had on hand, and sticks from the bushes I pruned a couple of weeks ago. The branches were wet and pliable, easy to shape and bend, which is why I chose to use them.
But my friends, I’m getting off track. I’m mentioning decor because it dresses the door itself to make a statement or a greeting.
Last weekend, Jon and I attended a local Home and Garden show. We go every Spring, and dream of all of the “things”. Projects and plans swirl in our heads.
This year, I mentioned that our entrance (specifically our door) has always bothered me, it’s very 1980’s and on every other house in our subdivision. Our door doesn’t match the style of the house…. why didn’t the builder or designer see that? We’re the second family to own this house, and I can’t believe this door is still here….it should’ve been removed years ago.
Or is it just me?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for our home. Knowing my mother would be living with us, we chose this home because it was easily accessible for her walker and there were no stairs for her to climb. My mother lived with us for 3.5 years, in fact, she moved in one week after we did! This home has served us well.
But the “fancy” leaded glass door and sidelights, with brass trim is a bit much for this girl!
I did make an appointment with one of the Home Builders at the Garden Show. Next week I’ll be at their showroom and look to see if they have anything that I’d like and get some price quotes.
Renovation, restoration, or even simple “refreshes” take time and money. I’ve had plans on hold for the simplest things, I thought, and I’ve waited for a year now, basically to freely spend the money required, when it’s not needed elsewhere. That’s the key. You need to be comfortable (actually I prefer “thrilled”) with your purchases, in order to enjoy them in your home.
Oh, along with the new front entrance, I wouldn’t mind painting the entire front of our house, bricks and all. We painted the cedar siding and trim in the front of the house, built the post and added the light beside our driveway, immediately after moving in. We relandscaped both front and back, changed the entrance to the deck and refinished it.
I actually like the bricks on the front, so painting them for a different look, or style is a move you cannot “undo” easily.
What would you do?
Have you painted a brick exterior before?
For your home?
Drop a comment, or suggestion in the box below…I really could use wisdom with a decision like this.
This is just a quick update on our house, and plans looking ahead, that I wanted to share with you.
Have a great day!
Blessings,
xx,
