I don’t know about you, but we’ve just celebrated at several “Fourth of July” parties,
and not a one had a pie as pretty as this one!
Would it sound strange to you that I like the food that I prepare to be as “pretty,” as it is tasty. I try to please all of the senses for my family, guests, and myself.
Do you remember the saying, “we eat with our eyes first…”, meaning that if the presentation is pleasing, we are sure that the taste will be as well.
Jon and I were at the lake cottage with family, celebrating several “fourth of July ” parties in a row…when I found Leslie’s post with her pie recipe and I was blown away at how perfect the timing was…a red, white and blueberry pie that was as festive as the flags around us.
As I’m writing, I’m thinking of the crazy activity of lake parties and hosting large groups of people..
which makes me think I could top a store-bought blueberry pie with this amazing topping, and no one would be the wiser! Their eyes would be wanting MORE, which is the entire reason I’d make it that way. No one cares, when they’re hungry, about the ingredients or the techniques or the How-To’s on creating this or any pie.
Sad.
But True.
If you have littles next to your elbows in the kitchen, let them help you with the original recipe. After all, you do need a “stirrer”, a “mixer”, a dough “roller” and a “berry washer”…what more could you want or need in Grandma’s or Momma’s kitchen?
Line up the kids, give them a task (and perhaps a drop-cloth!), and let’s make a pie!”
Since it is still summer, about half through now, don’t waste time, let’s try this pie now, while the fruit is at its peak,
let me know in the comments if you made it, and while you’re at it, check out Leslie’s other delicious recipes, at VUE Magazine and her website @feetundermytable.com
Enjoy!!
