hopefully, flowers!!
Hey all, we’re getting closer to the REAL Spring!
I’m sitting here writing on a Monday afternoon, still February. Yesterday, as we pulled the car out of the garage to go to church, snow covered our lawn, our porch and driveway. The blades of grass actually had tiny ice crystals sitting on top of each blade! The sunlight, the crystals, and the air still frigid, made the entire lawn look like an ice-rink, so pretty!
A few hours later, after church and lunch, our grass was as green as could be, the sun warmer, and it felt like Spring may indeed be around the corner.
I hope so, don’t you?
Last year’s late Spring’s flowers on my porch. I added an old window shutter behind the urns of flowers on each side of my entry door, making the white, pink, blue and purple blooms pop!
The above photo is one of my favorites, a cute cottage entry, maybe a back porch, back door, side entry…however we refer to it, it’s just as welcoming. Which also reminds me, that one of my goals when we moved into this house, was to replace the leaded glass front entry door and sidelights, not real unleaded glass, more like the Menard’s version of “classy” in the 1990’s. I truly would prefer a simpler “cottage style” door.
What chores do you have to get ready for Spring?
Do you have flowers to buy, plant or uncover from the mulch so they can grow? A lawn to fertilize or a fence to repair or install?
We have several “to do’s” on our list, and although I don’t like thinking of it as a “chore”, I do realize that this is how we welcome each new season, it’s a way of preparation, a way of looking forward with anticipation …isn’t it?
Will you be a Spring Breaker this year? Heading South to find a stronger sun and putting in some beach time?
How do you herald in this month of “almost Spring” ?
Do you entertain for Easter, or host for the littles visiting on their school break?
At my Easter table, last year, I had a Peter Rabbit theme for the entire table. Each place setting had a small clay pot with an herb planted in it, and a garden marker with their name on it, as a place card. Oliver sat here…need I say more?!
I’m wondering if this is a busy month for you, and what you’ll be doing as the weather warms? Traveling, outside activities or chores…maybe both?
We’ll be opening our little lake cottage for the season, working both inside and out, getting ready to refresh, repaint or repair what’s needed, put the pier in, same chores, same list of to-dos every year.
As much as I’d love to give you a list of all of my upcoming projects and deadlines, I’ve learned to give myself some space and loads of grace. I will most certainly share as I go!
If there is anything in particular you’d like to see, gardening or recipe ideas, entertaining-easily tips, summer cocktail recipes, party prep ideas, let me know.
I’ll do my best to deliver, add your suggestions to the comment box below!
Happy almost Spring, and Welcome March 2024
