Now that it’s June, Father’s Day is coming soon!
Are you ready?
How do you celebrate Father’s Day with your father, husband or special guy?
I married an avid fisherman.
Last year he handed me a small box full of antique, or vintage lures, wood and metal, all hand painted, literally tiny pieces of art.
“Can you do something with these, they’re my favorites?”
“I’ll try”.
I took an old drawer from a child’s desk (yes, we had that, we sell antiques) and a piece of heavy cardboard and linen. This picture is untouched and shows my mistakes…but it’s real and at least I can now point out what NOT to do!
I wrapped the material around the cardboard, not tightly enough, and secured the back with tape, glued the cardboard into the drawer. I should have ironed the fabric and stretched it taut, I never dreamed it would actually pucker like it did.
Lesson learned.
Next, I arranged a few of the lures in a way to show their best features and attached with hot glue. Later, my husband let me know that removing them would ruin them, by pulling off the old paint. So, I now recommend using small pins attached through the tiny loops and joints on the lures, easy to remove if needed and won’t “hurt” the lure’s finish.
An entire wall of FISH!
This photo shows the second “box” I made for him, without harming the lures with hot glue. In the larger box I used small trim nails, like you would thumb tacks, but the heads are smaller, not noticeable from a distance. See below for a close-up:
Finally, I just want to encourage you, if you “caught” a fisherman of your own, to try this easy craft…. my husband loves it, it cost very little time, skill or money to create, and occasionally he adds more lures to it.
He’s obsessed!
What can I say?
He’s a keeper!
Happy Father’s Day to you and your special guy or guys, celebrate them well…
enjoy!
xx,
