June begins…
Like all overly matured children, I love June because it is, after all, my birthday month!
Would there be any other reason? Yes! of course! there are many!!, summer is brimming with activities, and they’re all in full gear by the time June arrives.
Traveling, gardening, weekend warrior home projects (you know, the ones from last years to do list!) sports camp, church camp, Bible school, even a summer class, a vacation at the shore, the lake, the ocean, or a tent in the backyard, all offer an escape from the ordinary, the every-day of life. Perhaps it’s the warmer weather seeping into our souls, that encourages us to get up and DO!
Whatever the reason, it matters not!
Summer, I’m sure, was created to enjoy; to play, to plant and grow, and to rest, which means napping on the porch!
As my brother always says, “It’s allllll good!”
Friends, excuse my exuberant enthusiasm, I tend to carry on…..
So. What are your plans for this month?
Whatever they may be, take a second or two to consider the “porch napping” I mentioned earlier. I highly recommend it! We had two porches on one of our previous homes, and the kids still talk about the porch swing to this day, almost 20 years later!
Last years to do list, for Jon and me, was to rescreen our porch at the lake. (Now it’s on the to do this summer list :)!) Our porch faces the water, it’s long and skinny, awkward really, but it’s my favorite room in the house! It’s 7′ x 21′ shape allows for nothing but water-viewing opportunities. I do have a small vintage iron table and chair set, that we use for “indoor” dining, and an old glider that was free, I just replace the cushions yearly, to keep them plumped and clean!
FYI: I’m sorry to interrupt, but I just noticed on this photo, that every single cute-little-cherry- salad- plate in upside down! I only mention this, to beat you to the punch, should you be tempted to point it out. Embarrassing!
That vintage oil cloth pattern thrills me every time I see it. I truly have a “thing” for vintage, old, aged and rusty items.
Currently, our 3-car garage is full of “artifacts with rust,” otherwise known as antiques and collectibles, that we sell. Scouting for and reselling vintage and primitive items began before we moved back home to Indiana. About five years ago, I had a “shop”, a space rented where I would sell aged and primitive items, hand-crafted items and home decor accessories. Separately, one day a month from April to October, Jon and I sold at an antiques market, Sunday at Sandwich, in Sandwich, Illinois. What fun!
Before the October show, the last of the Market year, I was a vendor at a large Crafts Show, also in Sandwich, IL. Between this “show” and my shop, I sold literally thousands of hand-made pumpkins, over the years. After the first few years of selling, people started referring to me as the “Pumpkin Lady”!
I do love a good antique market; English and early American primitives are my favorites.
If you are near Sandwich, Illinois, I would highly recommend their “Sunday at Sandwich Antique Market”, they have food vendors, face painting for children, and always, always something waiting for you to bring it home!
I’ve mentioned a few things, but what are YOU planning on doing this month? Or doing nothing at all, and simply enjoying warm, slow and easy days with your children at home, or time spent with a loved one, your friends and family.
Regardless of your plans, carefully made in advance, or impromptu and spontaneous, this month is too short to waste.
Please drop a comment below, and share what you’re up to, I really would love to hear about it. I’ll be able to read your comments and answer them, and perhaps you have some ideas you’d like to see here on the blog!
Teamwork!
Blessings my friends, enjoy these beautiful days of June,
